Step three: apply and develop.
You should now have a grasp on the essential growth pathways. It’s time to apply these to your organisational practice. Utilise our inclusion and growth assessment and share your learnings with others. Work on designing and actioning new initiatives. Additionally, you may like to dive into some higher level coursework or connect with our consultants for extra support.
A forest of kahikatea. A sky full of rearea.
Applying and developing the Ōhanga Rearea framework.
This framework offers an opportunity for organisations to strengthen their approach to takatāpui and rainbow inclusion. It is narrative-driven, entrenched in te ao Māori, and was developed alongside countless takatāpui and rainbow people across Aotearoa.
Its aim however is not only to help out an individual organisation: but for our organisations, communities, networks, and families across Aotearoa to help support and guide one another. The vision? A forest of kahikatea. A sky full of rearea. In the implementation of this framework, should you reach the final stages of each essential growth pathway, you will find a bird hatched, nourished, energised, and ready to spread its wings. It will journey on to find its own kahikatea to ascend. And that is our kaupapa. Empowered communities, supported to do great things, alongside great people.
Now that you have familiarised yourself with its content, you may wish to begin incorporating its structure and guidance within your organisation. This can work in a range of ways - but in general it works best if you first identify your organisation’s ‘champions’ that will be ready to achieve some of the initial outcomes.
For further advice and support, Ōhanga Rearea provides a range of free development programmes, and hosts a Q&A section on its site. For a personal touch, Uenuku Consulting are more than happy to work with your organisation to achieve its takatāpui and rainbow inclusion ambitions, or presenting on this framework to your members.
For now, thank you for selecting this framework to read. We hope it will be as useful to you as it has been to us over the years.
Ngā manaakitanga,
Fly well,
